Firenados occur when ground-level winds come into contact with a fire and whip it into the air, creating a tornado-shaped spiral of flames. ABC 7 shared the dramatic footage of whirling smoke and flames.

Two wildfires in Siskiyou County near Mount Shasta have exploded into raging monsters, tearing through parched forests, pumping out massive smoke plumes, spawning firenados and triggering evacuations. "Everett Memorial Highway will also be closed at McBride Springs."
"We are in the process of closing down the following campgrounds for public safety: Bunny Flat, Sand Flat, Red Fir Flat, McBride Springs," the Forest Service said on Facebook. Forest Service said Wednesday afternoon it's in the process of closing parts of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest because of the Lava Fire.
